The Roper St. Francis Sleep / Wake Disorder Center team includes doctors board certified in sleep medicine registered respiratory therapists and registered polysomnographers. Our sleep specialists work closely with your referring primary doctor to review test results and recommendations for treatment or further evaluations.
The Center offers the following diagnostic tests:
- Home Sleep Test: an in-home screening test used to identify the presence of sleep apnea. This disposable device is mailed to your home and can diagnose sleep apnea accurately. The device is used in conjunction with a smart phone application and the test results are transmitted immediately to a board certified sleep medicine doctor to interpret the study. The home sleep test does not require a visit to the sleep disorder center.
- Nocturnal Polysomnography (Sleep Study): an overnight test consisting of continuous monitoring of brain waves (EEG), heartbeat (EKG), eye movements (EOG), muscle activity (EMG), blood oxygen levels, chest and abdominal movement and nasal/oral airflow
- Multiple Sleep Latency Test: a daytime test, usually following an all-night test, used to manage the degree of sleepiness
- Maintenance of Wakefulness Test: a daytime test that determines the effectiveness of sleep disorder treatment
Following referral from a primary care doctor, patients are offered a full evaluation by a board certified sleep specialist.
For your convenience, Roper St. Francis Healthcare offers testing in four locations throughout the Lowcountry, each featuring private rooms with a TV and queen size Select Comfort beds for testing. Your doctor can make arrangements for testing at one of these locations by calling our scheduling department at (843) 402-5000.
