Remembering the 25th anniversary of Hurricane Hugo
CHARLESTON (Sept. 19, 2014) – Just before midnight on Sept. 21, 1989, Hurricane Hugo barreled into Charleston as a Category 4 hurricane.
Hurricane Hugo destroyed homes, killed residents and changed our lives forever.
On the 25th anniversary of the storm, we remember Hurricane Hugo and how it affected our Roper St. Francis Healthcare family.
The heroic efforts of David Johns, who retired a few years ago, to hand pump fuel for Roper Hospital's generators that provided power to our intensive care units, life support machines, operating rooms and emergency lights.
