Merging Art with Technology
Biotechnology and the arts collided Thursday at Roper Hospital.
Roper St. Francis Clinical Biotechnology Research Institute (CBRI) partnered with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) for the first Merging Art with Technology event.
Lead cellist for the CSO, Norbert Lewandowski, agreed to let CBRI record his brain activity while he played music. The way Lewandowski’s brain interfaced with the music was demonstrated in colors that showed the intensity of his performance. As Lewandowski delighted guests with his music, his brain activity painted a picture of thoughtfulness and creativity.
The Roper St. Francis Clinical Biotechnology Research Institute (CBRI) is a research program that allows patients access to the newest treatments and clinical trials available for varied conditions. CBRI also creates an atmosphere of innovation and is building partnerships for the development of new therapies and establishing an intellectual research hub in the Lowcountry.
