Diabetes education
Roper St. Francis Healthcare offers comprehensive diabetes education through group classes and one-on-one counseling. We offer guidance on meal planning, carb-counting, healthy lifestyle choices and medication. Our team aims to improve your quality of life and show you how to stay healthy while living with diabetes.
Our program is certified through the American Diabetes Association. It also includes dietitians and nurses who are certified diabetes educators.

Health coaching
Our cardiac wellness team includes a certified health coach who can empower you to achieve your health and wellness goals. Health coaching provides encouragement, support and accountability that helps you stay on track.
If we think you may benefit from health coaching, we’ll refer you to our health coach for a consultation. We’ll get to know you during this initial meeting and learn about your health history and personal wellness goals. We may also have you meet with a dietitian and exercise physiologist to evaluate your health needs.
After the evaluation, our health coach will work with you on a wellness plan that may include meal planning, exercise, smoking cessation and other lifestyle changes. The health coach will meet with you weekly for three months to help track your progress, and suggest changes to fit your needs. Above all, these meetings will provide positive encouragement to help you meet your goals.

The HeartFitness Program is available at our Roper Hospital in downtown Charleston. The program includes annual evaluations and coaching sessions for people with no history of heart disease and well-controlled blood pressure, blood sugar, heart rhythm and breathing during exercise. This program can also include personal training.
Nutritionists and dietitians
Roper St. Francis Healthcare has registered dietitians and nutritionists to help any patient with dietary questions, meal planning, carb counting and weight loss. We’ll work with you to create a customized plan that fits your nutritional needs and food preferences. Our team can also help address meal planning for specific dietary needs, such as food allergies.
