The Nurse Residency Program at Roper St. Francis Healthcare is accredited with distinction as a Practice Transition Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Practice Programs.
The nine-month program supports a newly licensed RN's transition from student to professional nurse. The program is focused on leadership, quality, safety and professional development. With the support of a mentor, new nurses increase confidence and competence. In some cases, post-residency nurses are assigned a mentor for a year.
We also offer specialty tracks for new graduates and those with less than one year of experience in the following areas:
- Critical Care
- Emergency Room
- Oncology
- Perioperative
- Women's and Children
Requirements
Any hospital-based RN hired with less than six months of experience as an RN. Nurse Residents enter the program through two channels:
- Unit-based: Newly licensed RN hired directly to a clinical unit.
- Pipeline RNs: Newly licensed RN hired into an RN Pipeline position; will orient on two units over 12 weeks with additional training provided for specialty tracks. Once clinical orientation is complete, Pipeline RNs will have the opportunity to learn first about available unit-based positions.
Benefits
Roper St. Francis provides nursing scholarships, a tuition reimbursement program and various student loan relief programs. In addition, we believe in work-life balance, so we offer flexible schedules and the WOW (Weekend Only Work) program in approved units. The program helps meet special staffing needs and allows nurses to work three twelve-hour weekend shifts and receive extra compensation.
