Roper St. Francis Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss is one of the first centers in South Carolina to be certified to place intragastric balloons. Our program offers the Orbera intragastric balloon.
What is an Orbera Balloon System?
Orbera is a non-surgical outpatient endoscopic procedure performed under light, conscious sedation. The physician places one thin and deflated balloon into the stomach and fills it with saline until it’s about the size of a grapefruit.
How long is the Orbera procedure?
The procedure typically takes about 20-30 minutes so you can go home the very same day.
After six months, the balloon is deflated and removed in an outpatient endoscopic procedure performed under light, conscious sedation.
When will I see results from the Orbera Balloon?
Weight loss with Orbera is rapid, with the majority of weight loss typically occurring in the first three months of treatment. The adjustments to your eating habits and your continued efforts to stay active will greatly influence your results.
Who can receive the Orbera Balloon?
Patients with the following Orbera qualifications are eligible for this procedure:
- Adults only
- Must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 to 40
- Be willing to participate in medically supervised coaching
What is the procedure cost and coverage for the Orbera?
Most insurance companies don’t cover the Orbera procedure. The placement/removal procedures and the device health coaching and support from InHealth via an app will cost $6,800. If needed, we can refer you for financing options. Get started today, complete the Bariatric Surgery Information Session online.
