Tuesday, December 7, 2021 - Three Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospitals recognized among best in country

The only three South Carolina hospitals to earn the prestigious 2021 Leapfrog Top Hospital Award among general hospitals belong to Roper St. Francis Healthcare.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital were among just 46 nationally to be honored in the general hospital category and among 149 total to receive Top Hospital Award recognition.

“These awards are a testament to the exceptional quality our team provides to patients on a daily basis,” said Marian Savage, vice president for quality and patient experience. “We’re proud of our caregivers for this latest accomplishment and for continuing our more than 160-year legacy of healing our community. Quality is embedded in our culture and in our strategic plan for the future in which we ‘provide convenient, high value and clinically integrated care to all.'”

The award is among the nation’s most competitive recognition for excellence in hospital safety and quality. Top Hospitals have better systems to prevent medication errors, higher quality on maternity care and lower infection rates, among other qualities. Hospitals that are eligible to receive a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade must have received an A in the most recent round of scoring to be eligible.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital both earned As on Hospital Safety Grade ratings released in November. The Safety Grades by Leapfrog evaluate hospitals’ performance on more than 30 evidence-based measures of patient safety, including for the first time, post-operative sepsis, blood leakage, and kidney injury. Roper Hospital earned a B on the ratings and Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital was not rated.
