Statement about UnitedHealthcare
Roper St. Francis’ participation in UnitedHealthcare’s network ends on Feb. 28. Negotiations continue, but there are significant gaps in what UnitedHealthcare is proposing and what Roper St. Francis considers to be fair rates and contract terms.
With our patients' interest in mind, Roper St. Francis offered to extend our current contract with UnitedHealthcare until October to allow negotiations to continue without jeopardizing patient access to our services. Unfortunately, UnitedHealthcare refused that offer.
Even if the contract expires, UnitedHealthcare is required by law to cover emergency medical treatment for its members. In addition, for some patients, treatments for acute care or a serious chronic condition that are already in process may continue to be covered at in-network levels for a period of time.
At Roper St. Francis, we hold ourselves to the highest quality standards. Our daily creed is to provide exceptional care at the best value for our patients. We accomplish this by following strict patient safety guidelines, all to ensure the most optimal results for our patients. Our efforts are leading to better patient experiences at more competitive costs. This is how we maintain our standing as the most preferred healthcare system for adults in the Lowcountry.
Roper St. Francis continues conversations with UnitedHealthcare, keeping negotiations focused on quality, service and choice for patients so they may continue to access their preferred providers and care locations, including specialty services only offered by Roper St. Francis.
Our mission is to care for ALL people with compassion, faith and excellence. We remain hopeful the situation will be resolved and will not impact our valued patients.
