Ryan White Wellness Center to offer optometry services
The Ryan White Wellness Center soon will expand again through a new partnership with Lowcountry Eye Care to provide optometry services to patients.
Optometry services will launch Nov. 17 at the Ryan White Wellness Center on Tobias Gadson Boulevard and will be free to its enrolled patients.
“We’re always striving to improve the quality of services for our patients,” said Aaron O’Brien, quality and development manager for the Ryan White Wellness Center. “Advanced HIV can have significant impacts on the eyes, so it’s important for our patients to be in regular eye care to make sure their eyes a looking healthy.”
The Ryan White Wellness Center is a comprehensive sexual health care provider with a commitment to total wellness and high quality, patient-centered care. It is the only one-stop-shop in the Charleston area providing access to essential medical care, case management and other supportive services for people living with HIV, along with access to prevention services like PrEP and nPEP.
The Center provides an array of low, or no-cost clinical and support services for patients living with HIV, and a number of services for those who are not.
The center has worked hard to co-locate services at its clinic to make access as easy as possible for its patients, O’Brien said. Lowcountry Eye Care has been the center’s vision partners for years by serving Ryan White patients at its locations around the tri-county area.
“We know and trust them, and they treat our patients the way we would all expect to be treated,” O’Brien said.
The Ryan White Wellness Center will have a selection of frames from which patients can choose, as well as contact lenses if that’s their preference.
