Monday, May 6, 2024 - Roper St. Francis Healthcare sponsors North Charleston Farmers Market

Roper St. Francis Healthcare and the city of North Charleston celebrated the start of the North Charleston Farmers Market season together in May.

Vice President and Chief Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity Officer Dr. Michael Moxley and Mayor Reggie Burgess were joined by community leaders to cut the ribbon and welcome local vendors and community members to the first day of the market. It will be open to all every Thursday afternoon from 3-7 p.m. this summer under the Roper St. Francis Park Circle Pavilion.

In a show of its commitment to the North Charleston community, Roper St. Francis Healthcare announced last fall its sponsorship of the pavilion inside the city of North Charleston’s Park Circle redevelopment project that features the world’s largest inclusive playground.

“It’s our honor to sponsor this beautiful pavilion that will serve as a gathering spot for the community to access fresh food through a farmers market, enjoy one another’s company and celebrate life,” Dr. Moxley said.

The farmers market hosted a variety of food vendors and artisans under the shade of the pavilion. Community members perused handmade soaps, purchased farm-fresh eggs and strawberries and took home one-of-a-kind works of art.

“We have to think about the needs of our citizens,” Mayor Burgess said. “And we want to thank Roper St. Francis Healthcare for stepping up to help show people in the region and in the state that the city of North Charleston is as good as the rest.”

The new Roper St. Francis Mobile Health Unit also rolled up to the season opening of the farmers market, offering screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose and colon cancer risk assessment, along with preventive health education.
