Wednesday, August 30, 2023 - Roper St. Francis Healthcare celebrates double distinction as a great American employer

Roper St. Francis Healthcare has achieved two distinguishing designations, solidifying its status as both a Great Place to Work and one of America’s Best Employers.

The healthcare system ranked No. 2 on the America’s Best Employers list for South Carolina for the second year in a row, according to 2023 results released by Forbes magazine.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare also was the first healthcare system in South Carolina to be certified by Great Place To Work, a prestigious designation based entirely on what teammates said about their working experience.

“An engaged and appreciated workforce means better care for patients,” said Dr. Jeffrey P. DiLisi, president and CEO of Roper St. Francis Healthcare. “Roper St. Francis Healthcare has a longstanding reputation for a strong sense of camaraderie and purpose amongst teammates and physicians. These important designations serve as additional proof that we lead the state in valuing our teammates and uniting behind our mission of ‘healing all people with compassion, faith and excellence.’” Stay tuned for more information to come on valuable feedback on the Great Place to Work survey, along with fun ways to celebrate these awards.

Making the Forbes list

The Forbes America’s Best Employer list was created by surveying 70,000 Americans who worked for companies with at least 500 employees. The list highlights the 1,392 employers that received the most recommendations.

Roper St. Francis Healthcare ranked above employers such as MUSC Health, Duke Energy and Publix Super Markets.

Anonymous surveys included questions on numerous topics ranging from safe working conditions and fair pay to inclusive culture and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Fifty-five employers in South Carolina were ranked.

Achieving Great Place To Work designation

In a comprehensive survey conducted this summer for Great Place To Work certification, 87 percent of teammates expressed that Roper St. Francis Healthcare is a great place to work, a notable contrast to the 57 percent recorded for an average U.S.-based company.

Ninety one percent of teammates said that when they join Roper St. Francis Healthcare, they are made to feel welcome. That achievement takes on great importance as Roper St. Francis Healthcare focuses on ensuring new teammates feel engaged and valued.

Great Place To Work® is the global authority on workplace culture, employee experience and the leadership behaviors proven to deliver market-leading revenue, employee retention and increased innovation.

According to Great Place To Work research, job seekers are 4.5 times more likely to find a great boss at a Certified great workplace. Additionally, employees at Certified workplaces are 93 percent more likely to look forward to coming to work, and are twice as likely to have a fair chance at promotion.

“Great Place To Work Certification is a highly coveted achievement that requires consistent and intentional dedication to the overall employee experience,” says Sarah Lewis-Kulin, the Vice President of Global Recognition at Great Place To Work. She emphasizes that Certification is the sole official recognition earned by the real-time feedback of employees regarding their company culture. “By successfully earning this recognition, it is evident that Roper St. Francis Healthcare stands out as one of the top companies to work for, providing a great workplace environment for its teammates.”

These latest accolades complement another national award announced earlier this year. All four Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospitals received the highest grades from Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which honors hospitals across the country for protecting patients from preventable harm or error.
