LeapFrog Group all As ratings

Every hospital at Roper St. Francis Healthcare earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for patient safety in The Leapfrog Group ratings released today.

Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Roper Hospital, Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant received the highest marks possible for protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.

“We are so committed to patient safety and to providing the best care for our patients in the Lowcountry, and I couldn’t be prouder of our organization, especially our teammates, for all of the hard work,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jeffrey DiLisi. “It takes every one of us to earn a recognition such as this, and it is a great, great day for Roper St. Francis Healthcare, and, most importantly, for the patients in our community.”

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization, and it offers the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on preventable medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“The Leapfrog Group was started by a consortium of Fortune 500 company leaders who wanted to ensure their employees were receiving the best and safest care, no matter where they went,” DiLisi said. “So Leapfrog Group came up with an objective way to look at hospitals. We’re one of the few health systems of our size nationally that can say today, ‘Every one of our hospitals earned an ‘A’.’”

The Leapfrog Group assigns “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grades to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
