James Island Christian School students volunteer at Roper Hospice Cottage
Roper Hospice Cottage on Thursday hosted James Island Christian School students who washed benches, planted flowers and placed bird feeders around the hospice courtyard.
“Coming out and serving is what is in our DNA,” says Cindy Hunter, James Island Christian School Head of School.
The 31 students used skills they learned in their “Life Lab” class, a hands-on, service-driven program that equips students with life skills needed outside of the classroom. Brownswood Nursery donated the plants.
“This is something that is really going to bless our patients and our organization,” says Elizabeth Simons, Patient Care Coordinator at Roper Hospice Cottage.
Hospice is an important part of Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s commitment to providing a seamless continuum of care for patients, and that includes those facing a terminal illness for whom curative treatment is no longer an option.
“We depend so much on donations and people helping us out,” says Simons.
If you want to help or volunteer, Roper Hospice has a place and a need for you. Whether you choose to work directly with patients and families or offer other support, you can make a difference in someone’s life, even your own.
