Friday, September 29, 2023 - Charleston Oncology to reopen location at Roper Hospital

Charleston Oncology will reopen a location next week at Roper Hospital, enhancing cancer care options for patients in the area.

The Monday, Oct. 2, opening will relieve patient congestion in West Ashley and offer a more convenient location for community members near downtown Charleston. It comes after a 2022 agreement with Charleston Oncology in which Roper St. Francis Healthcare expanded its network of award-winning cancer service providers throughout Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties. The system is working through its Strategic Plan 2030 to improve access to care in the region and address future clinical needs.

“We’re excited to open up the clinic and return these services to patients in the downtown area,” said Matt Desmond, Roper St. Francis Healthcare regional president and vice president of operations.

The location will be split into two sites, with the clinic in Suite 500 of the Medical Office Building and infusion treatments in Roper Hospital. The infusion site will utilize a previously idle area on the hospital’s fifth floor. Treatments are not expected to begin until Oct. 16.

The downtown practice will be open three days a week: Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, with hours between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Staff will engage services to escort any non-ambulatory patients who need help navigating between the clinic and treatment sites. Others will be given detailed directions.
