All three Roper St. Francis Healthcare hospitals earn five-star federal rating
All three of Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s flagships hospitals have been awarded five star ratings from the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital, Roper Hospital and Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital were among 337 hospitals nationwide to receive the highest possible overall rating.
The ratings are based on 57 measures of quality and patient safety, including hospital mortality, infections related to surgery and urinary catheters, as well as readmission rates. More than 4,000 hospitals from across the country were rated. Roper St. Francis was the only healthcare system in the state in which all of its hospitals were rated at the five star level.
Dr. Stan Wilson, chief medical officer for Roper St. Francis, said this independent analysis of data speaks to the fact that Roper St. Francis is fulfilling its legacy to the community to be safe, effective and high quality.
“It’s extremely impressive for all three hospitals to have five star ratings,” Dr. Wilson said. “I am so proud of the hard work of our nurses and physicians for this achievement, which represents a high level of patient safety and satisfaction.”
The Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating is designed to help individuals, their family members, and caregivers compare hospitals in an easily understandable way, according to the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
