Packing is the one thing you don't want to be caught doing as you
are leaving for the hospital. You should prepare an overnight bag
three weeks prior to your due date. That way, you'll be sure to
have everything you and your baby needs while in the hospital.
The following list is designed to help with your packing. This
will assure that a few of the simple comforts are not left behind.
- Bathrobe
- Flat slippers
- Two or three nightgowns, perhaps with a
front opening for breastfeeding
- Five or six pair of underwear
- Personal toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste,
showercap, deodorant, hair care supplies, a compact and cosmetics
- One of two bras: a supportive, tight bra
if bottle feeding; or two nursing bras and nursing pads if breastfeeding
- Pillows from home
- Important phone numbers
- Birth announcements or stationary, if desired,
plus pen, stamps and addresses
- A watch with a second hand
- Camera with flash, film and fresh batteries
- Insurance card or information (You may check
with Pre-Admissions at 402-5100 as to what you will need.)
- Loose fitting "going home" clothes for
you
- "Going home" clothes for baby (including
blanket, bunting, diaper and a cap)
