Expectant Family Classes

It is important for you and your family to feel comfortable and well prepared for the birth of your child. Roper St. Francis Healthcare offers a number of programs at a variety of locations and times. Registration is required for all classes. Now register online for the following classes by clicking here:

  • Childbirth Preparation
    A series of four classes or one all day Saturday class for parents-to-be. Focuses on childbirth techniques, what to expect, breathing exercises and how to manage labor and emergencies.
  • Baby Boot Camp
    A special class for expectant and new parents to learn important baby care techniques including safety precautions, choking prevention/rescue, bathing instruction and diapering tips.
  • Big Brother/Big Sister Class
    This fun program helps children prepare for their important role as a big brother or sister. A short film and a trip to the nursery are included.
  • Expectant Parents Tour
    This tour of the maternity suites answers questions about what to pack, admission procedures, your stay and more.
  • Childbirth Refresher
    For parents who have already attended a childbirth preparation course with a previous pregnancy, this course offers a review of the most important points. Topics include breathing and relaxation techniques, stages of labor, differences in first and subsequent labors and postpartum changes.
  • Infant CPR

Knowing how to perform the simple skills of CPR and relief of choking can make a life or death difference for infants that are newborn to 12 months.  Specifically designed for expectant parents, new parents and grandparents to learn skills on how to perform infant CPR and to relieve choking on infants who suffer cardiac arrest or whose airways become blocked by food or objects.  The course does not require a course completion card and prepares caregivers with the knowledge and skills to help infants in an emergency. 

  • Safe Sitter

A medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls ages 11-13 how to handle emergencies when caring for children.

  • Pets, New Babies and Children: How to make everyone happy?

An informal seminar presented by a local veterinarian to learn the basics of how to adjust to having a pet once the baby arrives
