Roper St. Francis Website Honored with National AwardDecember 1 , 2005

Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s website has been recognized by eHealth Leadership Awards as being among the top national winners in the category of “best internet design for hospitals with 400+ beds” in 2005.  The award was announced on Nov. 7 during a healthcare internet conference in Las Vegas.

The hospital system’s new and expanded website – www.ropersaintfrancis.com -- was redesigned last summer and offers easy access to a wealth of valuable health and wellness information. “Our website is an important healthcare resource that’s user-friendly in an easy to navigate, visually stimulating format,” said Mike Taylor, Roper St. Francis Chief Information Officer.  The new site is kept current with frequent updates to ensure that information is both timely and accurate, he added.
Website features include:

• Find a Doctor, an online system that helps people choose from more than 700 board-certified physicians by specialty, location or even gender
• New information on Roper St. Francis Centers of Excellence
• Career opportunities, including online applications and a searchable job database
• Healthy Start Toolbox, a resource that offers easy-to-understand information on a wide range of health and medical topics.  This section provides resources for weight management, including a Body Mass Index calculator, food label reading instructions and healthy recipes.  Tools that guide in the self-assessment and exam for different types of cancers are also included.
• Video Library, including House Calls TV, Roper St. Francis Healthcare’s weekly television series featuring information on the latest in new procedures and medical technology.  The Video Library also features animated procedures, such as coronary artery bypass graft, valve replacement, heart attack or angioplasty.
• Hospital News Center and online health publications including:
• “Housecalls” quarterly health magazine
• Advantage newsletter, providing information for adults 55+
• “Cardiac Consult,” a publication designed to alert physicians to new trends in heart and vascular disease         
• An interactive web survey
• Health and wellness class schedules and registration, including a service for users to manage their personal information
