Roper St. Francis Healthcare Receives 62 National Awards

Roper St. Francis Healthcare has received 62 National Awards recognizing patient, medical staff and employee satisfaction in such key areas as:
- Teamwork between physicians, nurses and staff
- Overall quality of nursing care
- Physicians’ explanation of treatments and tests
- Quality of discharge instructions
- Total time spent in emergency departments
The awards include:
- 24 Top Performer Awards for scoring at or above the 100th percentile
- 19 5-Star Awards for scoring in top 10th percentile
- 17 4-Star Awards for achieving a score in the top quartile for overall quality of care
In addition, the healthcare organization received two of the highest levels of recognition –
- The Platinum Achievement Award for Roper Hospital’s Inpatient Oncology Department and
- The Overall Top Performer Award for Roper St. Francis Goose Creek Medical Center.
This is the fourth consecutive year that Roper St. Francis facilities have received national recognition for achieving exceptional levels of patient, medical staff and employee satisfaction.
Roper Hospital’s Inpatient Oncology Department received the Platinum Achievement Award for “Communication with Physicians.” Initiated in 2003, the project focused on strengthening daily communications between physicians, nurses and other medical staff in areas such as in-service instruction and daily rounds.
Goose Creek Medical Center received the Overall Top Performer Award for Outpatient Services for scoring at or above the 100th percentile for Overall Quality of Care. The Center was recognized for excellence in outpatient diagnostic services, including radiology, mammography and laboratory services.

More than 200 hospitals and healthcare providers, including some of the most prestigious hospitals and health systems across the nation, participate in this annual patient satisfaction research. Nearly 300,000 patients nationwide are surveyed by an independent research firm. The research is conducted weekly
throughout the year by contacting a random sample of patients via telephone for a confidential interview to assess their satisfaction shortly after their hospital experience. The research findings are then presented to the hospital to use in improving patient satisfaction.
