Roper St. Francis Healthcare Names Sullivan As CEO
for New Mount Pleasant Hospital

Roper St. Francis Healthcare (RSFH) is pleased to announce that John Sullivan, FACHE, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the new Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital, an 85-bed full service hospital to begin construction in late spring at Highway 17 and Faison Road in northern Mount Pleasant. Sullivan will also serve as a Vice President on the executive team for the health system, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. He will relocate to the area and joins the staff effective May 1, 2008.

“I’m excited to have someone of John’s caliber join our team and lend his considerable experience and leadership to this important project,” said David L. Dunlap, FACHE, President and CEO for RSFH.

Sullivan worked previously with RSFH, serving as interim CEO for Roper Hospital from January 2003 to April 2004. Under his leadership, Roper began construction of its new Heart & Vascular Tower, which opened nearly two years ago in April 2006.

“I’m looking forward to coming back to the Charleston area and getting under way with construction this year as we prepare for the November 2010 opening of the new Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital,” said Sullivan.

Sullivan, a health care veteran with over 25 years experience as a hospital CEO, has been a Senior Vice President with Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS) in Charlotte, NC, since 1995. CHS is the largest healthcare system in the Carolinas, and the third largest public system in the nation.

Prior to joining CHS, Sullivan served for seven years as President and CEO of Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle, NC. He also worked with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) for more than 14 years, serving as CEO for Community Hospital in Mayfield, KY age 2 of 2, Sullivan Named CEO of Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital as well as two hospitals in TN, Athens Community Hospital and Livingston Community Hospital. He began his career in health care in 1971 as an assistant administrator at Eastern State Hospital in Lexington, KY.

Throughout his career, Sullivan has actively served on numerous boards and committees in the health care industry including the American Hospital Association and state hospital associations.

Sullivan, who was born and raised in Princeton, KY, received his undergraduate degree in business administration from Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY. He and his wife, Mary, have three children. They plan to reside in east of the Cooper and become active in community and civic activities in the Mount Pleasant area.
